As Parliament Shuts down today, A-z Newspaper nominated for Awards

As the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone closes today, six media institutions including the A-z Newspaper had been nominated for the Press Gallery Parliamentary Award.

The Awards ceremony is going to take place today, Tuesday 25th April, 2023, at the State Hall, Parliamentary Building, OAU Drive, in Freetown.

This ceremony is being organized by the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery Independent Awards Committee (SLPPGIAC) with seven categories and fifty four individuals and institutional nominees. The theme for the program is “assessing the legislative impact and parliamentary effectiveness of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone”.

Chairman, Independent Awards Committee, Melvin Tejan Mansaray said they introduced the voting slip as well as portal for people to vote for their Male Member of Parliament, Female and Media House. He said they refused to use the word best because they don’t want people to misunderstand the concept. He noted that general output was taken into consideration before nominating those taking part in this all important awards programme.

The membership of the Press Gallery stretches across sixty reporters reporting for various media houses. The organization is being funded by the House to organize the ceremony which is believed, will attract a good number of dignitaries.

A-z Multi – Media Corporation has been doing a lot of reporting on parliamentary proceedings over the years since its establishment three years ago.

The award’s ceremony coincides with the closure of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone will elapses today as enshrined in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
