In his maiden engagement with the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United States of America (USA) Aboubakar Sidique Wai, for the SLP, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr William Fayia Sellu thanks and appreciated the Ambassador and his team for their unlimited support to the force.
The Police Chief recognized the level of interest from Ambassador Wai to help bolster the SLP in meeting international best practices in the discharge of it duties.
IGP William Fayia Sellu, briefed the Ambassador on some activities undertaken by the SLP since he took over the mantle of leadership, adding that him and his Executive Management Board (EMB) are working closely with other partners on programs to support the SLP.
He appealed to the Ambassador for more capitation and knowledge to the 10 beneficiaries of the two-week training on cyber crimes by the USA Cyber Expert, Jerry W Torres, who are currently manning the Cyber Investigative Unit (CIU).
The Police Chief Executive Officer (CEO), went on to inform the Ambassador about the ongoing Police recruitment process targeting one thousand five hundred (1,500) for the first phase and one thousand (1,000), in the second and final phase, noting that the recruitment would help add to the force strength in policing the March 2023 multi-tier elections.
He welcome the words of commitment and the continuous quest for support from Ambassador Wai to raise the standard of the SLP, assuring that the force is ready to embrace any meaningful support from external sources.
Earlier, the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the USA, Aboubakar Sidique Wai states that without Police and law enforcement, people cannot be safe in their communities and there would be no development, as peace and security breed development.
Investments he said thrive only where peace and security are guarantee, noting that investors put their monies where there is peace and tranquility.
“These achievements in any country is the responsibility of the Police” said Ambassador Wai.
His visit he disclosed was to assure the SLP leadership of his continuous support to the organization, irrespective of the change of guard at the top.
Ambassador Wai also assured that initial request for facilitation of partnership with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and other benefits are still on track.
