The Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) will on Monday introduce a new Information Management System switching off the old analogue system completely on Friday.

The switching off of the old South African system and the introduction of the new system will prevent consumers from buying top-ups for their meters during the weekend as the entire system will experience short shot down but the supply of electricity will not be disrupted, the Authority has assured.

EDSA’s Communications Director, Sahr Nepor has called on consumers to ensure they buy sufficient tops up for their meters in advance noting that they don’t want people to go without light during the weekend because of tops up.

He said they decided to change the system because of the issues raised against it that it was old-fashioned and sometimes giving problems.

“We engaged development partners to support us do the changes so we will be more efficient in our service”, Nepor pointed out, that the new system is locally operated and will promote accountability as it shows consumption patterns for the whole year, unlike the South African installed system.

The Information Management System has been operated in Liberia and Ghana successfully and the setting up of this digitalised fashion is at its advanced stage as the Spanish company which won the bidding process is in the finishing stage.

The support of the World Bank to transform the Authority’s information system has received the widespread accolade from members of the public who had called for the transformation of the energy service provider.
