As the incumbent government is on the verge of regaining a second term in office the Sierra Leone Electoral Commission (ECSL) has announced the release of partial results for the Presidential election conducted on June 24th, Monday at Bintumani International Conference Hall on the 26th of June 2023.
The returning officer of the Sierra Leone Electoral Commission (ECSL), Mohamed Konneh announced that the candidate for Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Julius Maada Bio has 1,067,666, while the candidate for the main opposition party the All People’s Congress, Dr. Samura Kamara scored 793,751.
The ECSL conducted the elections simultaneously in compliance with Sections 33 and 38A of the Constitution of Sierra Leone and Sections 7 and 68(1) of the Public Elections Act, 2022.
As the National Returning Officer, the ECSL released partial results for the Presidential election, representing 60 per cent of the total polling stations results processed in each district. These results were cleared by the ECSL Result Management systems at Regional Tally Centres in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Makeni, and Port Loko.
However, it is worth noting that these results are partial and do not represent the final outcome of the election. The ECSL assures the public that the remaining results will be released in 48 hrs as the commission works tirelessly to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election process.
