Claims made by Secretary General of the National Grand Coalition (NGC), Dr. Dennise Bright that thirteen registered political parties have formed the Consortium of Progressive Political Parties (CPPP) have been considered by the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and the All Political Parties Association (APPA) as baseless.
PPRC mouthpiece, Lucian Momoh has said the Commission does not recognize the Consortium because according to him, it is clouded with conflicts.
He noted that only the NGC and C4C officially wrote to the Commission expressing that they were leaving APPA. He called on the NGC scribe to name the thirteen registered political parties.
Chairman of APPA, who doubles as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Coker said APPA maintains its membership of twelve registered political parties. He described the outburst of NGC Secretary General as misleading.
In a retaliating tone, Prince Coker defended the position the Association has been taking as in the interest of the country at large.
He said the composition of the Consortium is noting to write him about accusing its members of selfishness.
He said APPA has been up to the task engaging government on national issues. He pointed out that the role of the Association is not to bash government but to have constructive engagement with them to the benefit of the nation.
It could be recalled that NGC Secretary General Dr. Dennise Bright had damned APPA claiming that the Association has been a predictive voice of the SLPP government. He also claimed that PPRC has failed to recognize the existence of the Consortium.
After the 2018 elections, eleven registered political parties with the exception of the APC, signed as members of APPA.
