A Philanthropist, an intending aspirant for the All People Congress party, Akuna Daniel Sawyer (commonly called Akuna Matata) has on Monday 15 August at the kick-off of the Portuguese Town Amateur Football Association (PoTAFA) tournament at School Yard Ferguson Street in Freetown, donated soccer kits including, net, dozen Jerseys, football, and an amount of Le 3 million to the Chairman of PoTAFA, Alusine Conteh.
Akuna Daniel Sawyer explained that the donation was to motivate the boys to believe in what they were doing. He further explained that it was not the first time he has embark on such gestures. He acknowledged the good work of PoTAFA by engaging the youths of the communities which comprise Sumalia Town, New England, Dwazack and part of Brookfields.
He added that despite his intervention of donating soccer kits to the Association, he also appreciated the referees for their relentless efforts by keeping the boys together, with cash of Le 500,000 (NLe 500) to the best referring, Le 500,000 (NLe 500) to the organizers, Le One Million (NLe 100,000) for the best upcoming player of the tournament and also Le 500,000 (NLe 500) to the highest goal scorer for the tournament.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank the organizers for this tournament and also community stakeholders for their relentless efforts for bringing these young stars together. This is what we expect from our young people not to be involved in violent acts” he said.
The intending aspirant for the APC called on the people to embark on massive voter registration sensitization to vote in the 2023 general elections. He said that is the only way people can express dissatisfaction if they want a regime change and not by violent means.
He informed those within the Dwazark, New England, Sumailah Town and Brookfield communities that he has already put a team together to start voter registration sensitization and ended up admonishing the young people to stay away from violence.
He also cautioned young people not to encourage countenance bad advice from politicians who have no good plan for the country. He urged the young people to be a symbol of change and that they are future leaders.
Alusine Conteh, Chairman of the Portuguese Town Amateur Football Association, expressed delight in the donation. He added that the intending aspirant has been a blessing to their constituency, He disclosed that Akuna has recently donated some items to them whilst they were planning to start the tournament.
He pleaded with other community stakeholders to talk to the Western Area Football Association in another to help upgrade the PoTAFA league. He concluded that the league has so many potential players who normally end with a misplaced career due to lack of support.
