In the bid of providing effective policing during the ongoing registration for the next general election, All People’s Congress Party Chairlady incited underage children at Lokomasama in a press conference organized by Sierra Leone Police held on Thursday 15th September,2022 at its headquarter.
Mohamed Brima Jah, Assistant Inspector General of police and Director of Operation said the Sierra Leone Police had the legal obligation to marshal personnel as well as guaranteeing members of the public with the necessary security measures going forward.
He revealed that the minimum age as stated in the legal instrument to vote and to be voted for had been eighteen. “We still have people who are mischievous. Those who think that they would create a situation where those who are not eligible to vote can be forced to vote. We have warned them,” AIG Mohamed Brima Jah said.
He said those who were caught in the art would face the full weight of the law; adding that Sierra Leoneans should abide with the law and not engage in any form of malpractices with regards to the registration process. He disclosed that after the commencement of the voter’s registration activity, quite a number of people were arrested who had not attained the accepted age ahead of the election period and among them was a chairlady for the All People’s Congress Party. He said they had arrested her and investigation would be concluded
Mohamed Brima Jah revealed that 24 children were arrested during the August 10 insurrection and they had been reunited to their parents according to the advice from the Law Officers Department. “We may bring them to court as when and where necessary,” he affirmed. He urged Sierra Leoneans especially the younger ones to be law abiding people.
Victor Williams, Commissioner of Police Freetown-West said the resuscitation of the Central Business Department for bike riders in their view of playing the spotted areas would be of effect on the 19th September 2022; adding that no commercial bikes would be allowed to move around the identify areas along the CBD.
Edward Senesie, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Commissioner Freetown-East said the security situation in the Freetown-East remained relatively calm and quiet; adding that night patrons were ongoing where checkpoints remained static. “We have 12 suspects in our custody in the regional office investigating them of falsification of official documents with intent to register for the 2023 General Election,” he said.
Francis Ben Lebbie, Deputy Superintendent at the Criminal Investigation Department said on Tuesday 6th September 2022 a case of embezzlement was reported where the suspect embezzled the sum of one hundred million one hundred and nineteen thousand one hundred and twenty six Leones twenty five cents, a property of Apex Bank in Kenema. He said the matter had been under investigation.
Samuel Saio Conteh, Deputy Superintendent and Community Relations Officer implored the press to continue to inform members of the public about the ramifications in playing the CBD especially for commercial bike riders. He revealed that peaceful co-existence served as a strong pillar in every democratic country Sierra Leone by extension.
“Philosophical dimension in community policing is workable,” he said.
John Abass Kamara, Regional Media Officer North-East said the situation in the areas were calm and quiet. He stated that the registration process had been going on smooth for the start of the process.
