The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has handed over a cheque for Le1,000,000,000 (One Billion Leones) to the Freetown City Council.
This amount is part of the Le3 billion that was stolen from the council by its own staff in collusion with a bank.
Francis Ben Kaifala Esq, the Anti-Corruption Commissioner, stated that the ACC thoroughly investigated the matter and successfully recovered the stolen funds. This handover marks the return of the second tranche of the recovered amount to the council.
The ACC remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for corruption face the full force of the law. In addition to the return of the stolen funds, administrative sanctions have been imposed on the offenders. Key individuals involved in the crime will also face prosecution.
With the recovered funds now returned, the Freetown City Council is poised to use the money for the benefit of the city and its residents. This development underscores the ACC’s dedication to fighting corruption and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
The cheque was received by the council’s Chief Administrator on behalf of the City Council.
