Alfred Ayodele Thompson, an All Peoples Congress (APC) Member of Parliament elect in the Western Area Urban has on Tuesday 8th August 2023 subscribed to the oath of office and becomes the second APC MP to take his seat in the well of parliament.
It could be recalled that all APC Members of Parliament elect, with the exception of Mohamed Bangura, signed to their party’s decision of boycotting the Parliament. This decision that was executed, as those MP’s failed to attend the opening of the Parliament, forced the Parliament based on the constitution to induce an ultimatum which disqualifies an MP elect from becoming an MP if absent for 30 sitting days.
Highly welcomed by the elected Members of Parliament in the well, honourable Thompson was given the opportunity to subscribe to the oath of office. Having subscribed to the oath, the clerk of Parliament, Honourable Umar Paran Tarawally officially handed over the instrument of the Sixth Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the elected honourable Member of Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Dr. Abass Bundu, having congratulated Hon. Thompson, the speaker assured him of the protection of Parliament. “From now on you are under the protection of this house,” the Speaker of Parliament assured.
The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion Sierra Leone (ICPNC-SL) in their Facebook page welcomed and congratulated the APC Member of Parliament, Alfred Ayodele Thompson for subscribing to the oath of office. “The ICPNC welcomes this positive development and looks forward to more MPs joining them,” the Commission added.
The Commission expressed that Hon. Thompson is at the time of reporting the 2nd MP to take his seat in the well of Parliament, he joined Hon. Mohamed Bangura, who subscribed to the oath during the official opening of the 6th Parliament.
