Ambassador Wang Qing visited Kenema in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province at the invitation of Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister, Timothy Musa Kabba. During his visit, Ambassador Wang attended the launch of a land rehabilitation project in Tongo Fields, toured local communities and schools, and was awarded the honorary title of Paramount Chief by the Lower Bambara Chiefdom.
At the launch ceremony for the land rehabilitation project, Ambassador Wang emphasised China’s long-standing support for Sierra Leone’s economic and social development, citing a series of “smart but beautiful” projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of local people. He expressed confidence that the land rehabilitation initiative would further contribute to the welfare of the local population. Ambassador Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sierra Leone in areas such as poverty alleviation, and expressed hopes for continued “smart but beautiful” projects that would help Sierra Leone achieve its national development goals.
Upon receiving the honorary title of Paramount Chief, Ambassador Wang highlighted the deep traditional friendship between China and Sierra Leone, stressing that the two nations have long shared strong ties, with their peoples being true friends, brothers, and partners. He expressed the Chinese Embassy’s desire to strengthen cooperation across all regions and chiefdoms in Sierra Leone, aiming to improve the well-being of the people, enhance mutual understanding, promote people-to-people exchanges, and solidify the foundation of friendly relations between the two nations.
Minister Kabba commended the long-standing friendship between China and Sierra Leone, noting the substantial results achieved through practical cooperation between the two countries. He thanked China for its support of the land rehabilitation project in Tongo Fields, which will contribute to improving the local ecological environment, accelerating economic transformation, and enhancing living standards. Minister Kabba stressed that the project exemplifies the tangible benefits of Sino-Sierra Leonean cooperation.
He also expressed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening governance exchanges with China, deepening practical cooperation in various sectors, and furthering the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
