Acting on behalf of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and Coordinator of the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government (C-10) on the reform of the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador Dr. Michael Imran Kanu, Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations and C-10 Coordinator at Ambassadorial Level in New York, is undertaking a high-level working visit to Cairo from 5 to 9 February 2026, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Ambassador Kanu is accompanied by Mr. Alan George, Political Coordinator and C-10 Expert based in New York.

During the visit, Ambassador Kanu will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, and hold consultations with His Excellency Ambassador Amr El Sherbiny, Assistant Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security.

The programme also includes a public lecture on United Nations Security Council reform at the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies, as well as a visit to the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).

The visit provides a strategic platform to exchange perspectives, deepen engagement, and strengthen partnerships in support of Africa’s Common Position on United Nations Security Council reform, as well as broader issues relating to peacebuilding and international peace and security. These engagements build on Sierra Leone’s successful tenure on the United Nations Security Council (2024-2025).

The visit underscores Sierra Leone’s continued commitment to the mandate of the C-10, effective multilateralism, African solidarity, and the strengthening of Africa’s voice in global decision-making.

Ambassador Kanu is expected to conclude the visit with onward travel to Addis Ababa on 9 February 2026.
