The Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association has on 7th February 2023 meets with the National Sports Authority at Wilkinson Road in Freetown.
The purpose of the meeting is to resolve the Constitutional matters that have to do with the third term issue ahead of their elective congress.
In his Statement, Kelfala Stevens the Director of Participation at the National Sports Authority after an hour of deliberations with Executive members of the Lawn Tennis Association advises that the President and the entire Tennis Family hold a Stakeholders meeting and chat about the way forward.
Key among other things the issues raised by the other Executives members, the issues need to be looking into ahead of the Elective Congress and some those issues to be resolved at Congress level because it only there constitutional matters are to be resolved either by voting or a unanimous decision taken.
He said the issue with the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association is not different from what is happening in Football, Cricket, and Athletics, adding that the National Sports Authority is firm and transparent to make sure that when issues of this arouse they have to make sure that the constitutional matters are observed and maintained.
“People should respect their constitution and do things by their constitution, if the Tennis members feel they have issues with the Constitution they must wait until Congress to amend them, if it’s about Eligibility or the issues of the third term to vote or who to vote need to be clarified before heading for the Elections”, he explained.
Ezekiel the President of the Lawn Tennis Association said the meeting with the National Sports Authority is a successful one for the betterment of Lawn Tennis in the Country and the Director of Participation Kelfala Stevens had asked him to summon a Stakeholders meeting with everybody that has a Stake in Tennis.
He affirmed that the current Executive will have to meet with the Stakeholders before the Elections and went further to state that nothing is going to change that, because they have to make some provisions clear to the membership for them to know as what they have raised will be addressed.
He noted that he is highly confident that the track records of his work will show as the membership will have to vote him overwhelmingly come the day of the Elections and there are more things in store for the development of Tennis Association.
Andy Bam the Vice President of Murray Town Lawn Tennis Court said they are a bit satisfied with the outcome of the meeting with the National Sports Authority and they are looking forward to the Stakeholder meeting.
“We are very firm with our stands because we don’t want the current President to contest for the upcoming Elections nothing will change that and they are ready to go there in peace and see a head way for the Elections”, he explained.
According to the amended constitution of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association that is amended in 2019 states that the President is to be elected for two-terms and can be re-elected for two terms.
Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association is among the Sporting disciplines that have brought laurels to the Country and some of its players are ranked fifth in Africa Ranking.
