Twenty-nine-year-old Vandy Kpaka, a mason, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, facing a charge of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, between the 1st and 31st of January 2024, in Kingston Town, Hastings, Waterloo, in the Western Rural Area of Freetown, Kpaka, employed as a house caretaker by Maya Sallu Kaikai, allegedly stole various items, including one generator, one barling machine, one aluminium ladder, and other items valued at a total of fifty-eight thousand eight hundred Leones (58,800), all belonging to Maya Sallu Kaikai.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was entered.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kadie M. Taylor, requested a short adjournment to confer with her witness.

Magistrate Kekura granted bail to the accused in the sum of two hundred thousand Leones or one surety in like sum. The surety must be a resident of Freetown and must provide a valid identity card showing their address in Freetown. The bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter has been adjourned to April 7, 2025.
