Ishmail Saidu Kanu, a Presidential aspirant for the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL), has unveiled an ambitious agenda to revitalize the organization and broaden its reach across the country.

Kanu’s vision includes decentralizing SWASAL activities, ensuring that sports journalism thrives not only in the capital but also in regional hubs. He believes this move will foster inclusivity and elevate the voices of sports writers in underserved areas.

He has also pledged to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, including national and international sports organizations, media houses, and corporate sponsors, to enhance opportunities and resources for SWASAL members.

Another cornerstone of his plan is a comprehensive review of the SWASAL constitution, which Kanu says will modernize the organization’s governance and align its policies with contemporary challenges in sports journalism.

Perhaps most excitingly, Kanu aims to revive the SWASAL Annual Awards Night, a celebrated event that honors excellence in sports reporting and serves as a platform to recognize the contributions of outstanding journalists in Sierra Leone.

“I am committed to building a stronger, more inclusive SWASAL that empowers its members and elevates the standards of sports journalism in Sierra Leone,” Kanu stated in a recent address.

With these bold promises, Ishmail Saidu Kanu is positioning himself as a transformative leader poised to take SWASAL to new heights.
