Sierra Leone National football team Leone Stars has on Wednesday the 10th November 2021 departed the shores of the Freetown International Airport Lungi for Turkey ahead of International friendlies.
According to Mohamed Benson Bawoh, the head of Cooperate Affairs at the Sierra Leone Football Association, the National team Leone Stars is playing friendly matches one is against Comoros that will take place on 13th November 2021 in Turkey, adding that there are negotiations going on to play one more match.
He made the disclosure at a press conference organized by the leading mobile Company Africell in partnership with the Sierra Leone Football Association at their Head Office in Wilberforce.
He affirmed that ticketing, Allowances, accommodation, logging, and feeding have been taken care of by the Government of Sierra Leone.
According to the head coach John Keister, he said
“We are going to Turkey as part of our preparations to identify players, even though it is result-oriented, but more so we are looking at this International window also to allow us to identify another set of players ahead of the AFCON”.
He furthered that they will take along 24 players, 13 Officials and four additional technical staffs in the coach area.
On the partnership with the Sierra Leone Football Association in Supporting the National team, Abdul Aziz Kamara the head of Sponsorship and events management said the company will continue to give its support to the National team because that is part of their Cooperate Social Responsibility and urged subscribers to stay with the company.
John Konteh the public Relations Manager did the Official unveiling of the Supporting staff to the national team, but it was a clear state that the supporting staff is going to be paid by the Government of Sierra Leone and not the SLFA, and that will be done on match appearance and their services are going to last just for the AFON.
This is the first time Sierra Leone is playing against Comoros in an international friendly encounter under a FIFA sanction match
According to John Keister the head coach of the National team, after the two Friendlies matches a list of 40 players both home base and foreign-based will be out for training and they are going to do the final selection of 28 players that will be going to the AFCON.
“As a technical team we have to be mindful in doing our final selection”, John Keister disclosed.
