On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Jendema border crossing became the focal point for a significant security meeting hosted by Customs Officers. The gathering brought together multiple agencies to devise strategies aimed at strengthening border security and curbing illegal activities such as smuggling and trafficking.

Chief Superintendent of Police Mr. Kpange, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Mano River Division, was a key participant. He provided an in-depth presentation on recent trends in cross-border crime, highlighting critical areas requiring immediate action. The discussions centered on enhancing coordination and communication among the various agencies to better respond to security threats.

Chief Superintendent Kpange described the meeting as highly productive, noting its importance in fostering cooperation between the Sierra Leone Police, Customs Officers, and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces. He stressed the unified commitment of all parties to work together to protect the border and ensure community safety.

Commissioner Tamgbo of Liberia Immigration, who chaired the meeting, echoed this sentiment. He pledged close collaboration with Sierra Leonean authorities, emphasizing the need for shared intelligence, joint operations, and reinforced border security measures to effectively deter criminal activities.

Key issues such as smuggling, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking were at the forefront of the discussions. Participants underscored the necessity for increased training and resources to combat these threats effectively. They also agreed that future security meetings should be held on a rotational basis to maintain ongoing cooperation and vigilance.

This joint effort represents a significant step toward bolstering security at the Jendema border crossing and enhancing the overall safety of the region.
