Africell Freetown Marathon To Kick-Off On Sunday

Africell Mobile Company has on 1st December 2022 updates Journalists about their Freetown Marathon that is set to Kick-Off this Sunday at Atlantic Beach in Lumley.

The Company meets with Journalists was held at its Headquarters Wilberforce in Freetown.

Abdul Aziz Kamara, the head of Event and Sponsorship at Africell said that the Freetown Africell Marathon slated for December 4 was launched by the Chairman of Africell Mr Ziad Dallou during his recent visit to Sierra Leone. It’s an event that seeks to promote healthy well-being and sports. He said athletics is the second most popular sport in the world and in Sierra Leone; we want to make sure opportunities are given to talented athletes to showcase their talent and have the platform to take their skills to the world stage; noting that the event will not be a one-off marathon. It’s something they plan on doing every year – the Africell Freetown Marathon.

He affirmed that this is why as a Company they are collaborating with the Sierra Leone Athletics Association which will not only be responsible for providing us with the officials but also helped with mapping out the route for the categories (5K, 10K, and a half Marathon).

Abdul Aziz Kamara stated that the events will officially commence at 6 am and end at 12 mid-day. He adds that they have arranged for 3 ambulances and 50 First Aiders from the Sierra Leone Red Cross to help us with the 3 routes on Sunday. They will not only be deployed at the various water stations but also along the routes to ensure first aid is given swiftly to whoever is in need.

Kamara also reveals that will also have vendors who will be selling food, drinks, and body boasters one might need on race day. They want an atmosphere where after running through their distance of choice, they can relax and have a drink with friends. They have encouraged all to bring their friends and family and let’s create history together.

Abdul Aziz Kamara said they have a clause with the Sierra Leone Athletics Association that any club that is a registered club with the Association and wants to be part of the Freetown Marathon they are not going to pay anything for the registration.

Dominic Moore, the Marketing Director of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association said as they want to thank Africell for staging the event and that they are ready to give their full support for the Marathon to be a successful one being the maiden edition in the country.

Kalfa Kargbo the Country Director of Street Child Sierra Leone said they feel happy to partner with Africell Mobile Company to stage a Marathon in Freetown, as an organization they are a partner with Africell and see that the event be a successful one, nothing they have staged their own in the previous years which had gone Successful and to partner with Africell they are looking forward to a Historic Marathon in Freetown.
