Africa Paralympic Committee Elect New Executive

The Africa Paralympic Committee has on Saturday 31th October 2021 Elect new Executive members to run the affairs of the Paralympic activities for the next four years in Africa.

The Elective Congress was held in Morocco as all Countries in West Africa assembly to elects its Executive members that will stair the affairs of the Paralympic Committee. 59 candidates gather in Morocco to choose who will rule them in the next four years.

After a tight contest in the Elections Samson Deen, the President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee was elected as the new president of the Africa Paralympic Committee. He secured 24 votes over his counterpart Hamid the Moroccan President of Paralympic Sports who secured 15 votes in the elections.

The Vice President one position went to a woman, Dr. Hayat who pulled 23 votes and Vice President’s 2 positions went to former Secretary-General, Rodrigo of Cape Verde.

The Celestin of Rwanda a former sitting Volleyball player has voted as the new Secretary-General ahead of Thuso of Botswana and Khalid Raebe of Libya is declared unopposed for the Treasurer position.

 The Elections for the Language representatives:

For the Arabic language, Ibrahim Amin went unopposed, and for French Jean Marie of Mauritius won ahead of Henry Tago.

For the English Ms. Limpho Doreen of Lesotho won that position and the Portuguese Ms. Jalima Melissa of Cape Verde went unopposed.

During the Elective Congress, key decisions were taken as Ghana has confirmed that in 2023 immediately after the All Africa games it hosts the first all Africa Paralympic Games, but the Africa Union will no longer be hosting the events but rather Africa National Olympic Committee Association.

The President of the Sierra Leone Paralympic Committee Unisa Deen Kargbo sent a message of Congratulations to the newly elected president;

” I want to congratulate you on your hard-won victory, taking the administration of the African Paralympic to Ghana was not only a victory for your Country but West Africa in particular.” He added that we believed in him and his ability to influence people in the Africa Para Movement and the growth of the African Para Sports, Sierra Leone is with you and will be willing to support your agenda.”

A motion was carried to include Single Leg Amputee Football to be members of the African Paralympic Movement and the motion was proposed by the Angola Paralympic Committee federation and supported by the Sierra Leone Paralympic Committee.
