As the adage goes “water is life”, the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu and his Wife Madam Doris Sellu, with support from Water4evr Company, have on Wednesday 14th December 2022, commissioned an artificial Mini Dam for an uninterrupted water supply across the Grafton Police Barracks.
They further commissioned the newly installed 10,000 Miller Tank at the Kossoh Town Community.
In her address, the President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association Madam Doris Sellu, stated that when her husband took over as the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, she automatically became the President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association. Upon assuming that office, she said she instantaneously started touring all the police barracks across the country in order to identify felt-needs of the police wives. She intimated that 99% of the concerns that came up during her tour were saturated around water issues, wash facilities and medical facilities which precipitated her to take such issues to the management of the Sierra Leone Police for immediate attention.
In her quest to ensure a quick fix of the acute water challenges faced by Police Wives, she disclosed that she also engaged other partners such as the Chinese Embassy which provided $18,000 for the construction of two boreholes with specific locations at Makeni and Kenema Districts respectively.
She assured that by end of January 2023, those projects would be completed.
She also intimated that the Mammy Queen of the Grafton Police Barrack initiated a deal with a company dubbed as Water4ever of which such laudable initiation led to the fruition of providing water across the radius and circumference of the Grafton Police Barracks.
In her vim and vigor to address water challenges across Police Barracks, Madam Doris Sellu disclosed that the Kossoh town Community approached her with a demand to provide water facilities for them which led to the installation of 10,000 liter water tank with daily water supply. In addendum to that, the Inspector General and the Chairman for the Western Rural District also pledged to provide two additional 10,000 liter tanks in the following weeks.
On his Part, the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, unequivocally stated that the history of the Police Wives Association could never be completed without referencing the name of Mrs. Moigbeh for her commendable initiative in establishing the Police Academy at Kingtom.
He therefore, confessed that the water facility provided at Grafton and Kossoh town is a step in the right direction. IGP Sellu acknowledged that people used to make sexual advances at girls going out to fetch water especially during night.
He therefore, assured that with the provision of the water facilities in those barracks would definitely help mitigate or eradicate such happenings across those communities.
IGP Sellu extended profound thanks to the Water4ever Company for their timely involvement in addressing the perennial water challenges within the Grafton Police Barracks. He also made a special appeal to the Water4ever Company to extend similar gesture and generosity across all the police Barracks in the country.
“We appreciate the support from the Water4ever Company and this has given us more power in line with our respective duties. We have no worries about rape and accident for our daughters while going out to fetch water. I want to join my wife to make this appeal to Water4ever that you guys are welcome to replicate such project in any part of the Police Barracks across the country”, he said.
John Campbell, the Chief Executive Officer of Water4ever Company referenced the underpinning factors that indeed Sierra Leone Needs Water. He added that the country has water but those waters are not well managed for drinking. He also expressed elation for establishing and giving aid to the Grafton Community. He assured all and sundry that the Grafton Water Project is just the beginning of their many projects implementation across the country.
