Accused sent to Jail for Obtaining Money by False Pretense

 Emilia Williams appeared before Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Court No 1 in Freetown on the 10th June, 2021 at the Pademba Court. The accused person is charged with various counts of obtaining money by false pretense.

According to police charge sheets, the accused person is charged with fifty-one counts of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.  It is alleged on count one that the accused person on date unknown, between the 1st January, 2018 to the 31st December, 2018 at Edward street Freetown obtained the sum of four hundred United States Dollar ($400) equivalent to four million Leones (Le4, 000,000/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate their movement (Michael Komba Fanday and Tamba Kamanda) to the United States of America, knowing the same to be false.

It is alleged on count two that the accused person on a date unknown, between the 1st November, 2019 to the 30th November, 2019 at Edward street Freetown obtained the sum of nine million Leones (Le9, 000,000/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate their visa process movement (Michael Komba Fanday and Tamba Kamanda), knowing the same to be false.

It is alleged on count three that the accused person on a date unknown, between the 1st November, 2019 to the 30th November, 2019 at Edward street Freetown obtained the sum of six million Leones (Le6, 000, 000/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate their visa process movement (Michael Komba Fanday and Tamba Kamanda), knowing the same to be false.

It is alleged on count four that the accused person on a date unknown, between the 1st January, 2020 to the 31st January, 2020 at Edward street Freetown obtained the sum of the ten million Leones (Le10, 000,000/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate their movement (Michael Komba Fanday and Tamba Kamanda) to the United States of America, knowing the same to be false.

It is further alleged on count five that the accused person on a date unknown, between the 1st January, 2020 to the 31st January, 2020 at Edward street Freetown obtained the sum of ten million Leones (Le10, 000,000/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate the movement of his younger sister Esther Kanu’s movement to the United States of America, knowing same to be false.

on the other counts, it is also alleged accused obtained the sum of four million Leones (Le4,000,ooo/00) from Michael Komba Fanday by falsely pretending that she is going to facilitate their movement (Michael Komba Fanday , Esther Kanu and Tamba Kamanda) to the United States of America, knowing the same to be false.

The accused person in total collected the sum of one hundred and thirty eight million Leones (Le138, 000,000/00) from complainant for the said programme. The accused denied all the fifty one counts charged against her.

The State prosecutor take token start for the fifty-one count charges against the accused person. The State prosecutor is Sergeant 8998 Taylor M.K. while there was no lawyer representing the accused person. The matter has been adjourned to the 17th June, 2021. In another development involving the same accused person, Emilia Williams has been charged to be in remand for eighteen months for other offenses of the same nature.
