Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba road court has on the 23rd September 2021, remanded One Julius Aruna ,20, at the Male Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing properties worth over 5 million Leones.
The accused person made his first appearance before Magistrate Ngegba on three count charges of house breaking, Larceny and malicious damage contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Hawa Bah, the accused on Monday 19th September 2021, at No.2 Smart Lane, New England Ville in Freetown, broke into and entered the dwelling house of Iye Kargbo, with intent to steal therein properties worth 5,880,000,00 Leones.
Testifying in court, Iye Kargbo said she knew the accused as his neighbor and recalled the date in question, she said on that day she returned from work around 8pm, when she noticed that the pad lock on her door was damaged.
She said after noticing that her door was damaged, she entered the room with a touch light on and saw the face of the accused person and she went out shouting, adding that during the process the accused escaped and her neighbor’s arrived at the scene while the accused had fled.
She said after the escaped of the accused she later notice that her properties missing and later saw a bag containing her slippers and other items that was stolen from her room.
The witness said after the incident she called her husband through the phone to explain the incident. Witness said at the time the accused was trying to escape, her landlady told her that she saw the accused passed in front of her door while the security light was still on.
She added that when her husband returned from work, they went in search of the accused and he was later arrested and taken to New England Ville police station were they later made statements.
However, Magistrate Ngegba remanded the accused remanded and adjourned the matter to Thursday 30th September 2021.
