Abubakarr Adam Sillah, an accountant employed by DirectAid Sierra Leone Limited, was on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after allegedly jumping bail in connection with the theft of over one billion leones.
The accused appeared before the court and was arraigned on 63 counts of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the indictment, Sillah is alleged to have stolen a total sum exceeding Le1 billion from DirectAid Sierra Leone Limited’s account number 066011383690202 held at Vista Bank Sierra Leone Limited, Lightfoot Boston Street, Freetown. The alleged offences reportedly occurred on diverse dates between January 2022 and October 2022. Prosecutors stated that the funds were the property of DirectAid Sierra Leone Limited and were intended for aid services.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
At the previous court sitting, the prosecutor, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Tommy B. Zizer Esq., applied for a bench warrant against the accused and his sureties following his absence in court. The application was granted by the Magistrate.
Upon his reappearance, Magistrate Jah revoked the bail previously granted to the accused and ordered that he be remanded in custody at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 20 February 2026 for further proceedings.
