Access Bank Staff In Court For Counterfeit Offences

Yayah Bilal Sillah, a Banker of the Access Bank and one Komba Fillie made another appearance in court yesterday Thursday 30th March 2023 before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 for alleged counterfeit notes.

Both accused are under investigation on 220 counts of the offence of Possession of counterfeit notes and issuing of counterfeit notes contrary to section 34(1)b of the Bank of Sierra Leone Act No.5 of 2019.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Saturday 17th September 2022 at the Access Bank Head office at Siaka Stevens street Freetown, the first accused Yayah Bilal Sillah was found in possession of $100 (one hundred united state dollars) notes with serial Number ME01504825B reasonably suspected to have been counterfeited or unlawfully obtained.

 While the second accused Komba Fillie of No.6 Carrol Lane, Wilberforce, Freetown, issued $100 notes with serial number ME01504825B to the said Yayah Bilal Sillah reasonably suspected to have been counterfeited or unlawfully obtained.

Progress report on the police file indicates that on Saturday 17th September 2022 at 11:20 hours, the Head of Domestic Operation at Access Bank Headquarters, Mr. Mohamed M. Jalloh was assisted by one Detective Inspector Mansaray and arrested the accused for the aforesaid offences.

Meanwhile, both accused are on bail but according to Police Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Lahai M, both are yet to fulfil their bail conditions.

The matter will come up again on Thursday 20th April 2023.
