The Academic Staff Association (ASA), University of Sierra Leone has resumed its Industrial Strike Action on January 4, 202.
ASA is reverting to the strike action because government is yet to yield to demands, according to a press release dated 4th January 2021.
Key demand of ASA has been spelt out explicitly to include: “the payment of our agreed 100% Salary Adjustment to reflect in our take-home (net) salary after all tax deductions, effective January 2021”
ASA had heeded the appeals of various stakeholders to suspend the strike action and allow the second semester examination to be conducted whilst government considered a decisive solution. That tentative stay action was made in a December 4th meeting.
But so far the government is yet to make a written commitment to address the demands, the release indicates.
“On that note, as resolved during the last ASA-USL meeting at IPAM, the industrial action is resumed henceforth.”
ASA is a professional body committed to protecting the welfare of lecturers and other academic staff from the three constituent colleges that make up the University of Sierra Leone Fourah Bay College (FBC), Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) and the College of Medicine.
