The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has on the Government Weekly Press Conference informed Sierra Leoneans about recent happenings on November 26th that it was an attempted failed coup to illegally subvert the government.
This press conference was well attended by the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant Peter Lavahun and AG. Director General Sierra Leone Correctional Centre. The press Conference was held at the Foreign Affair Conference Room.
‘’ We have determined the threshold we have been looking at, and it is clear that it was an attempted failed coup to illegally subvert or overthrown the democratic elected government,’’ Minister Bah explained. He stated that investigation is still continuing and that the intention of those people was seized power from the government.
He highlighted that some of the participants in the November 26th attempted failed had been captured whiles others are on the hiding. In that regard, Minister Bah assured the public that, the government has been fighting relentlessly to capture those participants who are on the hiding to face the full force of the law.
He advised the press and bloggers to stop spreading false information and that they have the correct information about those who have been declared wanted by the police, and he furthered instructed to the public to focus on their website or Facebook for correct information relating to the security of the state because the speak with one voice.
The Chief Defense of staff of the Sierra Leone Arm Forces, Peter Lavahun narrated that unfortunately around 2 am to 3 am the place was quite dark and the assailants went to the Wilberforce Barracks and broke into the Armory and carted away some ammunition and in that process a cross firing took place which resulted to the loss of lives of Military personnel and assailants.
He furthered that, the assailants also moved to Cockry Barracks where they were also repelled and in broad day light they also attempted to break into the army logistics unit at Murray Town. He updated the press in the conference that the notorious ‘’lather boot’’ was shot in the foot at the Murray Town logistics Unit where he first opened fire at the Military. He later died after sustain multiple injuries in his foot.
