At least seven (7) chiefdoms out of the fourteen chiefdoms that constitute Kono District have been infected with the third wave of covid-19 delta virus; this is according to the Kono District Corona Virus Emergency Response Centre coordinator Rev. Ambassador Samuel Sahr Sam.
He made the pronouncement when explaining the need for people to maintain the covid-19 preventive measures or protocols by the medics which will in no doubt minimise or curb the spread of the deadly virus.
According to him the death toll so far recorded during the present third wave of the corona virus in the country was never recorded during the first and second waves of the covid-19 pandemic and therefore urged everyone to maintain the much talked about covid-19 preventive protocols especially the vaccine which will enable the human system to resist the virus.
The seven chiefdoms which have been infected by the covid-19 third wave in Kono District include: Tankoro, Gbense, Kamara, Fiama, Gbane, Nimikoro and Nimiyama.
Meanwhile, it could be recalled that the DICOVERC coordinator and other staff of the centre have explained in their previous meetings how challenged the centre is in terms of finances.
According to the Kono District DICOVERC staff because of financial challenges there is no longer quarantine exercise but rather self-isolation which for many is a recipe for the wide transmission of the deadly virus in the infected chiefdoms, district and the country as a whole.
Asked to know whether the on-going presidential proclamation is going to be relaxed after the four weeks period, the DICOVERC boss said although he doesn’t have the executive powers to comment on such question but was very optimistic that the proclamation of President Bio can only be relaxed when the country starts recording one digit of confirmed positive cases.
He further called on all to put hands on deck in the fight against the third wave of the Covid-19 virus in the district and the country as a whole.
