A key route leading from Matru Jong, Bonthe district is now under full construction. This once bumpy, rickety and dusty road has started seeing tar and pavements. To fast track the work, two companies were awarded the job; Salcost and First Tricon. The president, Julius Maada Bio has made this road a priority as it leads to his home town, Tihun. One company takes the work from Bo/ Kenema highway to Tikonko junction and the other takes it from there to Matru.
Since the road construction is a priority, work has been going on even in the rainy season.
The Njala University, Torwama campus is along this road which is why its construction is very crucial. When completed it save villages located along it to be free of health hazards especially airborne diseases due to dust raised by plying vehicles and motor bikes. The construction of the road is also going to fast track business and aid farmer’s access to market. Bo-Matru road has been in bad shape for far too long but the Bio government is true to its promise and has decided to make it a reality.
