Alusine Forfona has been sentenced to the period he has already spent in detention after appearing before Hon. Justice Mohamed Bawoh of the High Court No. 2 in Freetown on one count of housebreaking and larceny.

The offence is contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act, 1961.

According to the particulars of the offence, on 7 July 2025, in Freetown, the convict broke into and entered the dwelling house of Alpha Ishmaila Jalloh, where he stole a Samsung Galaxy A05 mobile phone valued at Le9, 600, belonging to the said Alpha Ishmaila Jalloh.

State Counsel ABN Taylor Kamara appeared for the prosecution, while C. Taylor Young represented the defendant.

During mitigation, defence counsel appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy, urging the judge to consider leniency in sentencing.

The defendant also pleaded for mercy, informing the court that he had already spent one year and four months in detention and had learned his lesson. He therefore appealed to the court to take his time in custody into consideration.

In his ruling, Justice Bawoh noted that the defendant had not wasted the court’s time and subsequently sentenced him to the period he had already spent in detention.

The sentence means that Forfona will not serve any additional prison term.
