A 27-year-old mechanic, Alhassan Sesay, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown after pleading guilty to a charge of larceny involving a mobile phone.
Sesay was arraigned on a one-count charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Sunday, 11th October 2026, at No. 4 Elliott Street, Brookfield, Freetown, the accused stole a black Tecno mobile phone valued at Le2, 500, belonging to Samuella Hirtou.
When the charge was read and explained to him, Sesay pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Theresa Ballay, tendered the convict’s voluntary caution statement in court. She informed the court that Sesay was a first-time offender, had no previous criminal record and had not wasted the court’s time by denying the charge.
In mitigation, Sesay pleaded with the court for mercy, explaining that he was not legally represented.
In his ruling, Magistrate Fornah took into consideration the convict’s guilty plea, his status as a first-time offender and his plea for leniency before imposing sentence.
The magistrate subsequently sentenced Sesay to six months’ imprisonment or, alternatively, ordered him to restore the stolen mobile phone to the complainant or pay its equivalent value of Le2, 500.
