The Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) is in a process of transformation as the current Executive wants to put plans together to revamp the discipline in the country.
According to Alhaji Komba the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association he said they are working on so many reforms to reactivate the sports and work on plans for more athletes to join the boxing.
He affirmed that over the years the boxing association has faced series of challenges that has to do with training equipment and furnished facilities, getting the boxers in to competition, regionals championship and many more.
Amidst those challenges they are now working assiduously to get the sports back on track.
He added that since 2019 they have made efforts to put many things in place for the boxers.
Alhaji Komba confirmed that some of the reformation process has started working because they are currently working on three in one events that will take boxing to the provincial`s area so they can tap in new talent that will join the boxing association.
He furthered that they have contacted the technical team to put together a formation plan where there will be teams for all national levels, because the World governing body, the International Boxing Federation (IBA) has asked all Federation to get categories of different levels of national teams and addition of weight levels.
He added that last year in December the boxing association joined other African Countries as they took part in the International Boxing Congress where some other Africa Countries where not able to take part in that Elective Congress, the main motive of the Election was to see many transformation in the International body and Creame Leavef, a Russian International was voted as President of the International body.
His position has brought in many reforms as plans are on the way to review the current constitution to get a new one.
He said as part of their drive to reactivate the boxing they have held a one day boxing fight in Lunsar to spot out new talents because in the Provinces there are men and women who are of natural strength is just about taping those talent and that was the main reason that the fight was organized in Lunsar the Northern part of the Country. As an association they working on getting a national championship to spot out that is set to take place in BO where they will select boxers that will represent all national levels.
