The Kono District Convener for the National Civil Society Forum has said that the operation of both the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) is a slap in the face of President Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio.

Arthur Kargbo made the statement when interviewed by our A-Z Multimedia correspondent in Kono in order to explain the stance of the Civil Society Forum regarding the regular outage of electricity in the municipality of Koidu/ He found fault with the engineers of the aforementioned institutions for failing to explain to their consumers the problems responsible for the reported regular outage of electricity.

According to Mr. Kargbo, electricity being one of the priorities of the SLPP led government under the leadership of president Bio must be seen in reality but it is a farce in Koidu city.

He pointed out that in the bid for the Civil Society to interfere with the engineers of both EGTC and EDSA to map out strategies as to how the reported regular outage of electricity in Koidu could be addressed, none of the engineers attended the scheduled meeting without excuse.

Arthur Kargbo therefore maintained with dismay that the two engineers don’t have respect for stakeholders and even their consumers as they are in constant incommunicado with regards the operations of the two institutions unlike the other districts which have Public Relations Officers that serve as bridge between the consumers and the aforementioned electricity institutions.

The Kono District convener for the National Civil Society Forum noted that the objective for which the two engineers are avoiding to interface with the Civil Society Forum cannot be unconnected with the rumours making rounds that they are selling part of the monthly fuel that is sent to the district for the operations of both EDSA and EGTC.

According to them this is a way of undermining the tireless efforts of the SLPP led government to provide uninterrupted electricity to Koidu city as it was promised by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Power in 2019 but to no avail.

“As electricity is a poverty reduction strategy tool that hinges on the livelihood of many people, we will not relent in our crusade to have sustainable electricity in the municipality of Koidu”, Arthur Kargbo stressed.

Concluding, the Kono District Convener for the National Civil Society Forum said owing to the Six Megawatts machine the city has, there is no need for the reported regular outage of electricity in Koidu city.
