The Southern Region of the Sierra Leone Police has benefited from a recent promotion exercise, with officers elevated to various ranks, from Corporal to Chief Inspector.

Addressing the newly promoted officers during an evening parade at the Regional Police Headquarters in Bo, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), South, Joseph Ibrahim Lahai, urged them to regard their promotions not merely as achievements but as renewed responsibilities to serve the people of Sierra Leone with integrity, discipline and professionalism.

AIG Lahai said promotion recognizes an officer’s service, experience, dedication and professional growth. He reminded the officers that higher ranks come with greater responsibilities, particularly in leadership, accountability and the maintenance of law and order.

He encouraged them to demonstrate exemplary conduct, respect citizens’ rights and contribute to public safety and security. He also stressed the importance of teamwork, discipline and commitment to duty in strengthening public confidence in the Sierra Leone Police.

Deputy AIG, South, Fatty Daboh Kamara, also emphasised the need for professionalism, discipline and responsible leadership among police personnel.

She urged the newly promoted officers to use their elevation as an opportunity to improve their performance, lead by example and treat members of the public fairly and respectfully.

Kamara noted that rank alone does not define an effective police officer, stressing that integrity, accountability, commitment and dedication to duty are essential qualities for officers entrusted with leadership responsibilities.

The Regional Support Officer, South, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman Kamara, encouraged the officers to translate their new ranks into improved performance and effective service delivery.

ASP Kamara urged them to remain humble, focused and dedicated to their assigned responsibilities. He said promotion should motivate them to work harder, support their colleagues and uphold the professional standards of the force.

He also called on the officers to maintain mutual respect, strengthen cooperation and ensure that their conduct reflects the values and expectations of the Sierra Leone Police.

The promotion exercise forms part of ongoing personnel development within the Sierra Leone Police under the leadership of Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu and the Executive Management Board.

Promotion is an important aspect of career progression, recognizing officers’ professional development while preparing them for greater responsibilities within the force.

The officers are expected to use their new positions to improve service delivery, strengthen discipline and build public trust. Those who were not promoted are also encouraged to remain committed to their duties, maintain good conduct and continue working towards professional advancement.

As the Southern Region welcomes the promotion of its personnel, the emphasis remains on accountability, effective leadership and professional service to the people of Sierra Leone.
