Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has joined fellow agriculture ministers in signing a US$5.8 million regional project aimed at creating green jobs and expanding employment opportunities for young people in agriculture.

The Green Jobs for Youth in Resilient Agrifood Systems Project (GCP/SFW/013/ROK) is funded by a grant from the Government of the Republic of Korea. The signing took place in Rome, Italy, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

In Sierra Leone, the project will be implemented in Bo, Bombali, Kambia and Kono districts, with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) serving as the technical partner.

The initiative will equip young women and men with modern agrifood skills, expand green and digital employment opportunities, and support youth-led cooperatives and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The project aligns with the government’s Feed Salone agenda, which seeks to increase agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, attract private-sector investment and create sustainable economic opportunities for young people.

Through the initiative, Sierra Leone aims to increase youth participation in resilient agrifood systems while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods across the agricultural value chain.
