A surveyor, Anthony Murray, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on two counts of obtaining goods by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on a date unknown between December 1 and 31, 2024, at Youyi Building, Brookfields, Freetown, Western Area, the defendant allegedly obtained a grey Volkswagen Golf vehicle valued at US$6,000 from Musa Koroma with intent to defraud.
The prosecution alleged that Murray falsely represented that he had a parcel of land situated at Baoma Village, in the Dumbuya Town area along the Waterloo-Tombo Highway, for sale, knowing the representation to be false.
Count two further alleged that, on the same date and at the same place, the defendant obtained a black motorbike valued at US$1,000 from Koroma by falsely representing that he had a parcel of land at the same location for sale, knowing the representation to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken because the matter is at the committal proceedings stage.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, informed the court that he had served the defendant with a copy of the case and inquiry file.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, confirmed receipt of the file.
Magistrate Fornah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, and adjourned the matter to October 15, 2026.
