The Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project (LLDP), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), has completed an intensive capacity-building programme for Master Trainers as part of its phased implementation of Livestock Farmer Field Schools (L-FFS).

The training combined technical sessions, practical exercises and participatory learning to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills in livestock management, animal health, animal feeding and farmer-centred training methods.

The initiative reflects the Project Management Unit’s (PMU) commitment to a systematic implementation process that prioritizes institutional capacity, technical preparedness and quality assurance before extending project interventions to farming communities.

Through the Master Trainer approach, LLDP aims to build a strong pool of skilled trainers who will equip field facilitators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support livestock farmers. These facilitators will promote hands-on demonstrations, experiential learning and the adoption of improved livestock production practices.

The approach is expected to strengthen knowledge transfer, improve livestock productivity and enhance rural livelihoods, particularly among women, young people and persons with disabilities.

The initiative also supports the Government’s Feed Salone agenda, which seeks to boost agricultural production and strengthen food security across Sierra Leone.
