The Sierra Leonean Leone has remained relatively stable against the United States dollar over the past month, with recent exchange-rate figures showing a modest strengthening of the local currency.

Exchange-rate data shows that the amount required to purchase US$1 declined from about Le24, 150 on September 7, 2026, to approximately Le24,060 on October 7, 2026.

The movement indicates a modest appreciation of the Leone against the dollar over the period, following previous periods of pressure on the local currency.

The exchange rate stood at Le24, 131 per US$1 on September 30 before strengthening to Le24, 009.50 on October 5. It later moved slightly to Le24, 060 on October 7.

The figures show that while the exchange rate has experienced minor fluctuations, the Leone has generally remained firm and is trading at a stronger level than it did at the beginning of September.

The recent movement is significant for businesses and individuals who rely on foreign exchange for imports, international transactions and other economic activities.

A more stable local currency can provide businesses with greater certainty when planning transactions and managing costs, while reducing some of the uncertainty associated with sharp exchange-rate movements.

The Leone’s performance also provides a positive indication of relative stability in the foreign-exchange market and could support confidence in the local currency.

The Bank of Sierra Leone continues to monitor developments in the foreign-exchange market and publishes official exchange-rate information as part of its monetary and financial-market responsibilities.

However, exchange rates remain subject to market conditions and can change from day to day. The recent figures therefore represent a short-term movement rather than a guarantee of continued appreciation.

For Sierra Leoneans, the latest figures show that the Leone has remained relatively firm against the US dollar, with the local currency recording a modest improvement over the past month.
