The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has trained ten personnel of the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) on the proper handling and use of communication handsets as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and operational capacity.
The training was held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Kingtom, Freetown, and was aimed at equipping the selected immigration personnel with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively operate communication handsets during patrols and other field duties.

In her opening remarks, Head of Sierra Leone Police Communications, CSP Cecilia Akibo-Cole, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of properly handling and using communication equipment in the execution of official duties.
She encouraged the trainees to take the training seriously and ensure that the handsets are used responsibly and strictly for their intended operational purposes, particularly during field duties and patrols.
Head of Training, DSP Alpha Kamara, said the training formed part of the long-standing partnership between the SLP and SLID.
He noted that the Police had previously conducted similar training programmes for Immigration personnel, demonstrating the continued cooperation between the two institutions.
Kamara urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired and apply them effectively in their respective areas of responsibility.
The Director of Operations, AIG John Martin Senesie, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, said the training was part of the SLP’s continued support to partner institutions to strengthen their operational capacity.
Senesie said the initiative was designed to equip the selected SLID personnel with the necessary skills to operate communication handsets effectively while carrying out their duties, including patrol operations.
He urged the trainees to apply the knowledge gained responsibly and professionally in the field.
AIG Senesie also expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation between the SLP and SLID, noting that such capacity-building initiatives would help strengthen institutional partnerships and improve operational effectiveness.
The training included practical sessions on the proper handling and operation of communication handsets, with particular emphasis on their effective use during patrols and other field operations.
