The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has led a high-level delegation to inspect poultry farms and key venues in Tonkolili and Bombali ahead of this year’s World Food Day celebrations and the third anniversary of the Feed Salone initiative.

The inspection, conducted on Friday, 2 October 2026, was aimed at assessing progress in the poultry sector, identifying challenges facing farmers, and exploring opportunities to increase poultry production as the Government continues to pursue its food security agenda.

The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister II, Ing. Bryan Smart-Kanu, senior Ministry officials and representatives of the National Federation of Farmers Associations of Sierra Leone (NaFFSL).

The delegation engaged district stakeholders and officials at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) before visiting poultry farms in Magburaka and Makeni.

During the tour, the Minister visited Big Things Poultry Farm, Edimat Poultry Farm, Leecon Hatchery and Grace Organic Poultry Farm, where he interacted with farmers and operators about the challenges affecting poultry production.

Discussions focused on access to finance, input costs, production capacity, markets and opportunities available through loan and grant programmes being implemented by the Ministry in partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

Speaking to farmers, Dr. Kpaka reaffirmed President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to supporting the growth of Sierra Leone’s poultry industry.

“This sector is close to President Bio’s heart because of its critical role in nutrition security, creating jobs and reducing dependence on imports,” the Minister said.

He encouraged farmers to take advantage of available financing and other support mechanisms to expand their businesses and contribute to the country’s food security objectives.

The inspection is expected to continue on Saturday, 3 October 2026, with visits to additional poultry farms in Kambia District.
