The National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in Sierra Leone’s anti-corruption and good governance efforts.

The agreement was signed at the ACC’s Integrity House in Tower Hill, Freetown.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, ACC Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie said the partnership demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that all sections of society have the opportunity to participate in preventing and fighting corruption.

He said persons with disabilities should not be regarded only as recipients of support, but should be empowered to participate meaningfully in national affairs.

NCPD Chairman Brima Abdulai Sheriff said the partnership would create opportunities for persons with disabilities to take a more active role in accountability and anti-corruption initiatives.

He said the collaboration would also help raise awareness about the rights, responsibilities and capabilities of persons with disabilities.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate in areas including integrity, transparency, accountability, public participation and disability inclusion.

The partnership is expected to provide a framework for strengthening the involvement of persons with disabilities in efforts to promote good governance, accountability and the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.
