The exchange of visits between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump within six months marks a historic milestone in China-US relations, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25 at the invitation of President Donald Trump, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
During the visit, Xi is expected to hold in-depth discussions with Trump on major issues concerning China-US relations, as well as global peace and development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told a regular press briefing.
“Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic role in guiding China-US relations,” Guo said.
He said China is ready to work with the United States to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences and advance a constructive relationship based on strategic stability.
Guo added that China hopes the engagement will improve the well-being of both peoples while contributing to peace, stability and prosperity around the world.
Trump paid a state visit to China from May 13 to 15, marking the first visit by a US president to China in the current exchange of high-level visits.
