Young university graduates in Tonkolili and Moyamba have received practical training to strengthen their readiness for employment opportunities.
The training was organised under the European Union-funded Youth Action for Good Governance and Self-Reliance (YAGGS) project, implemented by ActionAid Sierra Leone in partnership with the Centre for Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA).
The seminar focused on key areas for graduates entering the job market, including career guidance, CV development, application letter writing, job-search techniques and interview skills.
YAGGS Project Manager Hezina Johnson said the initiative was designed to help graduates effectively present their skills and qualifications to potential employers.
“We are committed to imparting knowledge to these young minds for a competitive job market. After attaining tertiary education, we believe one must be able to make themselves marketable,” she said.
Participants said the training improved their understanding of the skills required when applying for jobs.
Mohamed Kabia of EBK University said the session changed his approach to CV preparation and boosted his confidence to apply for employment opportunities.
“This training widened my thoughts on CV development and has given me the confidence to apply for any job,” he said.
Katumu Kumba Ngebuva of Njala University described the training as useful, particularly the sessions on CV preparation and interviews.
“I have learned a lot, especially on CV development and interviews. This will help me prepare well for a job. I promise to cascade the message to other young people,” she said.
The organisers said the training forms part of broader efforts to equip young people with practical knowledge to enhance employment prospects, self-reliance and participation in good governance.
The graduates are expected to apply the skills gained to approach job applications with greater confidence and a clearer understanding of employers’ expectations.
