The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) in collaboration with Sierra Leone Sport Writers Association (SWASAL) Executive has on the 9th July 2021 ended a three days training course for Sports Journalists across the Country.
A total of 20 Sports Journalists across the country benefited from the training course as they are full equip to report the game of Cricket with authority after going through the basic rules and regulations governing Cricket Reporting.
According to the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Francis Trevor Samura applauded the Executive of SWASAL for making it possible that the training ended successfully.
He affirmed that Governance structures are one of the key things the association up holds and they wish to see that Cricket is being reported in the Country like any other discipline.
He expressed appreciation to the Sports Journalists from the Provinces who took their busy time to attend the training, and expressed optimism that these Sports Journalists can report the game of cricket in ease.
He added that over the years the Association has built a good partnership with the media as he urged all the Sports Journalists who participated in the training to continue with the same spirits and to be reporting as they are working tirelessly to be supportive to the SWASAL Executive.
The SLCA Chairman further revealed that they have held six tournaments across the country for both the senior men Cricket team the Patriots and the Female Patriots team but all those events were under reported, this was the motive why the Association conducted such training because the game of Cricket should be reported to the public.
While the President of the Sierra Leone Sport Writers Association, Sahr Morris Junior expressed his gratitude other seeing colleagues Sports Journalists across the country to have benefits from a three days intensive training on the above discipline.
“I am delighted and I say kudos to the Executive of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association for giving colleagues such opportunity even though it was within the shortest possible time we were able to conduct the training. Hopeful the Association has more than 25 sports Journalists across the Country who can report Cricket,” he affirmed.
He revealed that during his campaign time he promised to give a specialized training course to all sports Journalists in the Association as these one is just the start as more training courses on the way to empower colleagues Sports Journalists across the Country to be reporting all the sporting disciples in the Country.
He ended up by saying the current Executive is working on the rebranding process of SWASAL; once they are through with some engagements with the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, the National Sports Authority and they are hopeful to reactivate the relationship with the Football Association in the Country.
Linda Bull is the captain of the Female Patriots (the national team) was among the Lectures that helped in training the Sports Journalists on the game of Cricket Reporting, Mr. Knos Harding an Empire was another lecturer for the three days training course.
Juan Karim working for Nongowa Radio from Kenema said expressed his joy that for the past one decade as a sport journalist this was the first time he has been part of a constructive training course for sport reporters, and recommended to the Executive of SWASAL for more training.
Another beneficiary from the training, Paul Kamara working for Radio new song from BO City said ” I am happy to be part of this training course on how to report Cricket, because as a sports Journalists you should have knowledge of other sports disciples not just only football.”
Mohamed Gassima working for Classic Radio in BO City started by applauding the Newly Elected Executive of SWASAL for such a training course because it timeliness as it has broaden on our knowledge in cricket sports reporting.
The (20) Sports Journalists across the Country were thought subject such as; the History of Cricket, the Laws of Cricket, professional way of Cricket Reporting both locally and international. All attendees were issued with certificate of participation from the training.
