Sierra Leone U-17 Stars Depart For WAFU-A Qualifiers

Sierra Leone’s National U-17 Male Team, the Sierra Stars, has departed the country for Senegal via Guinea ahead of the the regional competition.

The Sierra Stars have been drawn in Group A, alongside The Gambia, hosts Senegal and Mauritania. They will begin their campaign against The Gambia on Monday, 7 September, at 7:00 p.m.

They will face hosts Senegal on 10 September at 7:00 p.m., before concluding their WAFU-A U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying Tournament, scheduled for 7–20 September 2026 in Dakar.

The 32-member delegation comprises 20 players, eight technical staff and four officials, who will represent Sierra Leone in

group-stage matches against Mauritania on 13 September at 4:00 p.m.

The team will be aiming to make a strong impression and advance in the qualification pathway for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Upon arrival in Senegal, the squad is expected to undergo its second Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) assessment on Thursday, 3 September, as part of the mandatory age-verification process for the tournament.

The Sierra Leone Football Association has wished the Sierra Stars a safe journey and a successful campaign as they represent the country on the regional stage.
