Sixty-four-year-old Mohamed Musa and 27-year-old Yankuba Koroma have been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Fornah on two counts of conspiracy to defraud, contrary to law, and obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act, 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, between March 4 and April 16, 2026, in Freetown, Western Area, the two accused allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to defraud Mohamed Koroma by falsely representing that they had a white AME-Coupe vehicle in Conakry, Guinea, available for sale, knowing the representation to be false.
The second count alleged that, on the same dates and at the same place, the accused, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of US$10,700 from Mohamed Koroma by falsely pretending that they had a white AME-Coupe vehicle in Conakry for sale, knowing the representation to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken because the matter is before the court as committal proceedings.
The prosecutor, Sergeant 8811 Florence Wilson, informed the court that she had served both accused with copies of the case and inquiry file. The accused acknowledged receipt of the documents.
Magistrate Fornah subsequently refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, and ordered that both accused remain in custody at the Male Correctional Centre.
The matter was adjourned to September 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
