The United States Embassy in Freetown has announced the arrival of Meghan Moore as its new Chargé d’Affaires, ushering in a new phase of diplomatic engagement between the United States and Sierra Leone.
The Embassy stated that Chargé Moore brings extensive diplomatic experience from years of service in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Her appointment is expected to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the United States and Sierra Leone in key areas such as governance, health, education, economic development, and security cooperation.
Prior to her new assignment in Sierra Leone, Moore served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, where she played an important role in advancing U.S. foreign policy objectives and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Embassy noted that Moore’s distinguished diplomatic career includes previous assignments in Liberia, Nigeria, Hungary, Pakistan, Colombia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has also served in senior roles at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., contributing to the development and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.
According to the Embassy, Moore’s broad international experience and leadership background will support her efforts to deepen engagement with the Government and people of Sierra Leone on issues of shared interest.
Speaking on her new role, Chargé Moore expressed enthusiasm about her assignment, saying she looks forward to engaging with the people of Sierra Leone, learning more about the country’s rich cultural heritage, and working with stakeholders to strengthen the enduring relationship between the two nations.
She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting closer cooperation and building on the strong ties that have existed between the United States and Sierra Leone for decades.
The United States and Sierra Leone have maintained strong diplomatic relations, collaborating in areas including democratic governance, public health, education, economic growth, peace and security, and youth empowerment. Moore’s appointment is expected to further advance these shared priorities while supporting efforts toward sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Her arrival comes at a time when both countries continue to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation aimed at promoting good governance, economic progress, and improved opportunities for the people of Sierra Leone.
