Western Area Handball Association Club league came to an end on the 5th July in Freetown. In the male category, 9 clubs took part in the two months long league competition.
The association also organized female league and Wheelchair league. In the male category, Lion Mountain HC won the league on goals different after playing 8 matches won 6 and drew 1 match.
Lion Mountain ended the league with 24 points, scored 177 goals with 91 goals against. In second position was Africa United with 24 points 162 goals and 83 goals against, Royal House took the 3rd position with 15 points 97 goals and 94 goals against.
At the bottom 9th position was Juba Rock with 0 point played 7 matches and lost all.
The Female league was won by Sierra Leone Correctional Female Club; Mama de Mama Club won the wheel chair league. In the female league, Lucian Sam of Sengbeh Pieh won the highest goals scoring award with 33 goals.
In the male category Mustapha Rashid Dominic Bangura scored the highest goal, David Bell won Best player, Mahmoud Barrie (Best goalkeeper) and the Best Behaved Team award went to National Fire Force in 8th position.
The president of the Sierra Leone Handball Association, Dr. Patrick Coker who also doubles as the President of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee (NOC) said despite been their president but as NOC president, he is the father of all associations.
He assured them that he will remain to be a Handball person, and thank the Western Area Association for organizing such a competitive league.
As a man who is discipline, he said he is always willing to give an award for best behave team.
The representative of the league sponsor Sierra Leone Commercial Bank said the bank cares for Sierra Leoneans. A reason, she said they decided to sponsor the Handball league to help upgrade the talents in Handball.
She called on them to continue their good performance in international competitions so that the name of the bank will be known internationally.
She encouraged them to continue banking with the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank so that in return they will do more on sponsorship.
The Sierra Leone Handball team in their last international competitions reached the Semi-final spots, but was knocked out by the Mauritanians.
