Two men, Alhaji Saiku and Momoud Barrie, have been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court after appearing before the court on allegations of business fraud.
The accused persons, alongside a third defendant, Mr Wurrie, who was absent from court, are facing three counts of obtaining money by false pretences, fraudulent conversion, and conspiracy to defraud, contrary to the provisions of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused persons allegedly, on diverse dates between 22 November 2025 and 21 April 2026 at No. 9 Sackville Street, Western Area, Freetown, obtained the sum of Le1,691,750.00 from Hassan Serry Kamara with the intention to defraud him.
The prosecution alleges that the accused falsely represented that they would remit the money to the People’s Republic of China on behalf of the complainant for business purposes, knowing the claim to be false.
The second count alleges that the accused fraudulently converted the said amount to their own use after it was entrusted to them by the complainant for the purpose of remitting it to China.
The third count states that the accused persons conspired together with the intent to defraud Hassan Serry Kamara by falsely claiming that they could process and deliver the money for his business transaction.
The charges were not read to the accused persons because the third defendant was absent in court.
Prosecuting counsel, Elvis Kargbo Esq., applied for a bench warrant to be issued against the absent defendant. Magistrate Jah granted the application and ordered that the two accused persons be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
The matter has been adjourned to 24 July 2026.
