Two-time Premier League champions Diamond Stars delivered a statement win on Monday, July 6, thrashing FC Kallon 4-0 at the Koidu Mini Stadium in a crucial Match Week 33 fixture.
With survival on the line, Diamond Stars came out firing and teenage forward Samura Kamara gave the “Gem Boys” the perfect start. He opened the scoring from a low cross by central midfielder Abu Bakarr Furnah. Just three minutes later, Abu Bakarr Fornah doubled the lead himself, pouncing on a rebound after the FC Kallon goalkeeper failed to hold the initial shot.
Forward Samuel Penni made it 3-0 five minutes after that, finishing clinically to give Diamond Stars a commanding first-half advantage. The game turned further in Diamond Stars’ favor after the break when FC Kallon were reduced to 10 men. Saidu M. Kamara received a second yellow card for professional misconduct.
Musa Samura then got in on the act, scoring to make it 4-0 and complete his brace. FC Kallon’s misery was compounded late on when experienced midfielder Kenewa Stevens was shown a straight red for a serious challenge. Diamond Stars were later awarded a penalty, but the teenage Samura Kamara stepped up and dragged his spot-kick wide.
The emphatic victory has given Diamond Stars a massive boost in their fight to stay up. They now turn their attention to next week’s decisive clash against Bai Bureh Warriors in Port Loko.

At the SLFA Academy playing field Bhantal FC delay Mighty Blackpool’s survival hopes with goalless draw
Mighty Blackpool’s fight for Premier League survival suffered a setback on Monday, 6th July, after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bhantal FC in a tense Match Week 33 encounter at the SLFA Academy.
The match was billed as a “do-or-die” affair, with both sides desperate for three points to steer clear of the relegation zone ahead of the final fixtures. The first half was defined by physicality and midfield battles, with both defenses on top. The two goalkeepers were largely untested as clear-cut chances proved scarce.
The intensity continued after the break, with both teams creating half-chances and several fouls breaking up play. The first shot on target finally arrived in the 62nd minute when Bhantal FC’s Abdulai Barrie unleashed a 25-yard effort. Mighty Blackpool goalkeeper Saidu Kamara was alert, however, and made a comfortable catch to deny him.
With tensions rising in the stands, the police were deployed to the arena to maintain order and ensure a peaceful finish. The game ended goalless. The point moves Bhantal FC to 40 points and 9th place, confirming their safety for the season.
For Mighty Blackpool, the draw takes them to 38 points, but it was not enough. Following Diamond Stars’ victory in Kono, “The Tis-Tas Boys” slipped one place to 14th right on the edge of the relegation zone with one match left to play.
The Leone Rock Premier League Board is putting things in place for the last day of the League next weekend.
