The discovery of a dead body and human skeletal remains in a bush between Gbetwema and Dombadu villages in Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District, has reportedly raised security concerns in the area.
According to the Media and Community Relations Officer of the Motema Police Division, Thompson Peter Ndapi, a distress call was received on Friday, 26 June 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., reporting the incident.
He said that upon receiving the information, an operations team from the division, including detectives led by the Operations Officer, Inspector Abubakarr Kamara, immediately proceeded to the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the first deceased, identified as Abdul Turay, also known as “Matta,” aged 28, from Matonkor village in Konikay Sanda Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, was found lying lifeless beside the Gbawama stream. He was reportedly riding a blue unregistered HLX motorbike at the time.
During a subsequent search of the surrounding bush, the skeletal remains of another commercial motorcyclist, identified as Joseph Koroma, also known as “Ajero,” of Yonmanja village in Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District, were discovered. He had reportedly been missing for approximately five to six months.
The police spokesperson noted that the crime scene was secured, examined, and photographed by investigators. The remains of Abdul Turay were conveyed to the Koidu Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The skeletal remains of Joseph Koroma were also recovered, and arrangements are underway for appropriate forensic examination to assist ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, following the discovery, a group of aggrieved youths and some commercial motorcyclists believed to be associated with the late Joseph Koroma reportedly gathered and threw stones at the residence of the Paramount Chief of Nimiyama Chiefdom, PC George Bockarie Torto, expressing frustration over the incident.
The police operations team from the Motema Division swiftly intervened to restore order and dispersed the crowd to prevent further escalation.
Security in the area has since been restored and remains calm, though under close police monitoring as investigations into both deaths continue.
