Leader of the DIB Movement and All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, has called for stronger climate action during the Environmental Awareness Walk 2026. He reaffirmed his commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The walk, organized by former students of the DIB Movement, was designed to provide Sierra Leoneans with an opportunity to engage with Dr. Bangura in a relaxed, healthy, and environmentally conscious setting.

The event commenced at Regent Car Park and concluded at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where participants gathered for the final segment of the programme.

The activity reached its climax with the orderly distribution and planting of tree seedlings, symbolizing a shared commitment to restoring and preserving Sierra Leone’s natural environment. Participants also witnessed official remarks and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honouring all those who took part in the initiative.

Addressing participants, Dr. Bangura urged Sierra Leoneans to respect and protect nature, emphasizing that environmental stewardship is a collective responsibility essential for the country’s future development and wellbeing.

Reflecting on the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” he highlighted three key pillars of climate action:

Inspired by Nature: Promoting nature-based solutions such as the protection of forests and wetlands that help combat climate change.

For Climate: Responding to the growing threat of global warming and supporting efforts to limit global temperature rise to the Paris Agreement target of 1.5°C.

For Our Future: Encouraging individuals, businesses, and government institutions to adopt sustainable practices in energy use, food production, and industrial development for the benefit of future generations.

Dr. Bangura noted that environmental protection is not only about conserving nature but also about securing a healthier, safer, and more prosperous future for all citizens.

He called on Sierra Leoneans to embrace environmental responsibility and work collectively towards building a greener and more climate-resilient nation.
